In 2012, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) boasted about the nation’s progress in developing nuclear technology, especially in its uranium enrichment technology. The Korean-government-run news agency said that during 2010-2012, the country had successfully developed both the centrifuge and reactor types of enrichment technology. Along with the Taepoong-2, Taepoong-3, and Taepoong-3A, KCNA referred to the Taepoong-2 ballistic missile and Taepoong-3 and Taepoong-3A solid-fueled rocket engines as the “precious fruits” of the nation’s nuclear research and development.
