With the increase in the volume of data generated, there is a need to process the data efficiently and fast for further analysis. Most data management systems are built on a row-oriented architecture, to achieve fast data retrieval. The row-oriented approach is usually used in traditional queries. In Big Data, data partitioning and memory structure optimisation are two important steps for achieving the objective of fast data retrieval. Memory structure optimisation is needed to maintain the data locations for fast data retrieval. This study investigated the memory structure optimisation in the Apache Avro framework. It analysed real-world scenarios in the Apache Avro framework, including: efficient use of Hive data warehouses, processing of Big data from heterogeneous sources, and processing of Big data in embedded systems. As a result of this analysis, we proposed a new memory structure optimisation framework called the “U-SQL Memory-optimised Graph” (UMOG) for U-SQL. The framework evaluates the data at the source, and can minimise the memory usage of the data structure of U-SQL for data partitioning. Based on the observation on U-SQL development for several years, we achieved the following new features in this framework: 1) Define the data structure of U-SQL with the support of “UDirect” in the data source, allowing the data source to be interactive while processing and, 2) Use a novel memory structure for U-SQL, to manage the memory consumption efficiently. This paper also addresses some challenges for building efficient memory structures in a U-SQL framework, including tuning for the data source execution, managing distributed environments and controlling the memory usage during U-SQL data partitioning.DENVER — A man shot during an alleged road-rage incident in Denver Saturday has died from his wounds, according to Denver police.
